Step for Upgrade from Version 7 BUILD 7002 to Version 7.5 BUILD 7600

Ensure your installation is on BUILD 7002 and that the product is functioning fine. The instructions below are the same for Windows and Linux.

Download the service pack from the below mentioned location:
http://bonitas.zohocorp.com/patches/cherry/01Jul2009/AdventNet_ManageEngine_NetFlow_Analyzer_7_0_0_SP-2_0.ppm

Please read and follow the instructions as mentioned without skipping any step.

  1. Shutdown NetFlow Analyzer service
  2. Copy the MySql and Data folder under the <NetFlow_Home> to a safe backup location. These two folders contain all the collected data and configurations of NetFlow Analyzer.
  3. Navigate to <NetFlow_Homein> directory and run the UpdateManager.bat (.sh in case of Linux) file
  4. From the Window that pops up, click 'Browse', select the above mentioned service pack which you had downloaded and click on Install.
  5. The upgrade will take a few minutes. Once the process reaches 100%, click on Exit.
  6. This will add the necessary files needed for upgrading your installation version 7.5. Do not run the product after this process.
  7. Now, navigate to <NetFlow_Home>in directory from the command prompt and run the BackUp_MYSQL4.bat (.sh in case of Linux)
  8. This will bring a pop up window asking the number of days for which you need Raw Data (30 days is the maximum) and Aggregated Data and also for the location to save the backup files.

THIS WILL BACKUP YOUR DATA AND CONFIGURATIONS TO A FOLDER NAMED 'mysql4DataBackup' AT THE LOCATION YOU SELECTED.

IMPORTANT: The upgrade process also involves updating our existing database to MySql 5 from MySql 4. This migration can take a long time depending on the data volume. Our tests have shown that the estimated time to migrate 2GB of data will be roughly 1 hour, also depending on the server capabilities. So, please keep the amount of data to be migrated to as low as possible.

We suggest 7 days for Raw Data and 180 days for Aggregated Data (which is the historical data). Data older than the selected time will not be backed up.

When selecting the destination drive/location to save the data in STEP 7, please select a drive/location different from the NetFlow Analyzer installation drive.
Eg. If NetFlow Analyzer is running on C:/Adventnet/ME/Netflow, please do not backup the folder to the "C:/Adventnet" drive. The same is valid for Linux.
  9. After the STEP 7 process of backup is complete, uninstall NetFlow Analyzer from the server.
  10. Download NetFlow Analyzer Version 7.5 BUILD 7600 from the below location:

    For windows: http://archives.manageengine.com/netflow/7600/ManageEngine_NetFlowAnalyzer_7600.exe
    For Linux:     http://archives.manageengine.com/netflow/7600/ManageEngine_NetFlowAnalyzer_7600.bin
  11. Install the product by running the appropriate binary file (depending on your OS).
  12. After installation, start and shutdown the NetFlow Analyzer service.
  13. Run the Restore_MySql5.bat (.sh in case of Linux) found under the <NetFlow_Home>in directory.
  14. Click on Browse and select the location of the backup specified in STEP 7. The name of the folder is 'mysql4DataBackup'.
  15. This will start the migration of data from MySql 4 to MySql 5 in version 7.5. As stated earlier, the time for this process depends on the number of days selected for Raw and Aggregated data.
  16. Once you get the completed message, please start the NetFlow Analyzer product.
  17. Your existing license will be stored under the <NetFlow_Home> directory after the migration. Navigate to License Management and use the 'Apply License' link to apply the NetFlow Analyzer license.

The license will be found under the <NetFlow_Home> directory only after the upgrade process is complete. Now you should have reached v7.5 BUILD 7600.
