With an increasing number of products ranging from media
converters to layer 2-4 switches, Allied Telesyn had to provide
a management platform that could work with all of their products
so that their customers can centrally configure, monitor,
and manage the devices.
There was also an increasing need for a platform that enabled
Allied Telesyn to build a full-featured NMS product to manage
complex Triple Play Networks. A platform that could scale
and evolve with these new services and help customers reduce
not only truck rolls but also help NOC resources provision
new services and manage Triple Play Networks.
Besides, Allied Telesyn felt that it couldnt go to
the negotiating table unless they have a management solution
as part of their offering.
Allied Telesyn had to choose a reliable, robust, and cost-effective
network management platform to quickly build their management
application. Given a short time-to-market, stringent resource
constraints, and a tight budget, Allied Telesyn did not want
to build everything on its own and was on the outlook for
a network management framework, which can be customized with
minimal efforts to meet the requirements.
Allied Telesyn wanted the framework to be affordable, proven,
and rich in features such carrier-grade scalability, high-speed
event correlation, remote configuration, and lot of out-of-the-box
FCPS functions. Allied Telesyn also evaluated framework vendors
for breadth of solution, references, reliability, and financial
stability.
Solution
WebNMS was one of the many frameworks that were
considered for the Allied Telesyn project. The impressive
clientele of WebNMS with more than 150 customers,
including Nortel Network, Motorola, Lockheed Martin, Chunghwa
Telecom, UTStarcom, etc., helped Allied Telesyn to choose
WebNMS Framework as the platform for their management software
development project.
Using WebNMS, the engineers at Allied Telesyn
built the fully featured Telesyn Network Management System
(NMS).
Using Web NMS framework, we could build a comprehensive, carrier-grade software for our Enterprise and Service Provider customers with reduced resources." - Parks Blackwelder, Project Mgr., Allied Telesyn Networks.
Featuring a full suite of FCAPS applications, Telesyn NMS
provides centralized element management for a complete range
of Allied Telesyn product lines.
Telesyn NMS fully leverages the fault, performance, and security
management capability of WebNMS Framework, which is critical
for ensuring high availability of the Allied Telesyn devices.
"AdventNet's framework was robust, proven, and scalable. However, the key deciding criteria were the highly collaborative approach, close working relationship, and top-notch technical support offered by AdventNet." - Don Nasholds, NMS Software Development Lead, Allied Telesyn Networks..
Telesyn NMS Minimises Truck RollOuts
The Telesyn NMS was built to minimize truck rollouts for
performing diagnostics or provision changes. The remote configuration
facility in Telesyn NMS enables network operators to do configuration
jobs on the network devices from a central console located
miles away from the network.
Telesyn NMS - The Umbrella Software
The Telesyn NMS was purpose built to be the umbrella management
software for an entire range of Allied Telesyn products including:
Key Features of Telesyn NMS
Auto discovery of Telesyn and Allied Telesyn elements
in the network.
FCAPS applications for configuring, managing, and monitoring
Telesyn elements centrally
Tree-based menus for easy navigation; support for creating
custom views
Graphical, color-coded representations of network topologies,
enabling administrators to determine network status at a
glance
Fully-featured SNMP management with trap forwarding for
integration with Network Management Systems, such as HP
OpenView
Point-and-click provisioning feature enables administrators
to manage device configurations from a central place seamlessly.
Support for seamless integration with network operating
center environments
Key Benefits
The following are the key benefits that WebNMS Framework
brought on to Telesyn Network Management System:
One Network. One Software: WebNMS Framework helped Telesyn
to build a single management software that can manage both
Telesyn and Allied Telesyn product lines.
Reduced development time: WebNMS Framework substantially
reduced the time taken to develop the Telesyn Network Management
System.
Cost-efficiency : Using WebNMS Framework, Telesyn was
able to control costs on the development and production
of the Telesyn Network Management System.
Less Resources: WebNMS Frameworks out-of-the-box
FCAPS support enabled Telesyn to remain focused on the key
feature additions rather than the basic network management
functions.
